Here’s a rare find on a quality USA made. N Porter saddle that has a lot of years on it ahhh… The stories it could tell… And saddle remains in good using or collecting shape. The basket weave tooling is gorgeous and supple, the leather under the fenders is all I see to point out that is showing a lot of age and although it’s working as is, some may decide to put new leather straps to adjust stirrup leg length some day. Over the years, the saddle has had work done to it – I imagine it started out with the’tie’ type under leather fender and was upgraded to the Blevins some decades ago. (A Porter family member who has all the build cards looked this one up for me and it was made in May of 1944) The underside fleece also looks great – which is often a rarity with these older saddles. I do not know if that underside fleece is original or had been replaced along the way – but whatever the case, it was done right. The tapaderos are original and the stirrup turners have recently been added. The saddle comes with the straps and cinch shown in photos. Ready to ride or display this handsome little slice of Americana…. After a brief stay in Everett, Washington, he settled in Phoenix, Arizona and established the N. Porter Saddle & Harness Co. The Porter guarantee became famous. After Newton Porter died in 1906, Earl the oldest son took over managing the business with the same traditions his father had instituted.
