15.5 Saddlesmith Slick Fork Ranch Roper. Goodness, is this a punchy saddle… And dare we say pretty? ! Seriously, this thing is gorgeous. From Saddlesmith, this rig is the real deal. Built right, will hold up to hard work, and will probably be one of the sharpest saddles on the ranch. Slick Fork swells-meaning narrower swells that are often paired with bucking rolls-which opens up the seat a bit to avoid feeling confined. On Full QH bars, measuring 7, offering wide flare and offers nice rock through the bars. This one will fit a horse well. On rawhide wrapped wood tree, weighing in at about 37lbs with tack. While not the heaviest saddle among ropers, this one is still built to work. Slick seat with raised twist, putting you on your pockets, that measures and fits like 15.5, with very adjustable fenders going quite long. Fenders are forward hung, with old time style external leathers, giving this one a really classic look. High 5 cantle topped off with a pencil roll. Reinforced 3″ x 3″ mule wrapped post horn that has never seen a rope. In skirt rigged, slightly set back to open up the shoulder, and surprisingly short round skirt at just 27. Comes fully rigged, finished off with plenty of strings. Near fully tooled with basketweave tooling, with some nice detailing such bare boarders and seat. While this saddle was built to work, this saddle sure hasn’t worked for a living. Has been well maintained overall with nice leather that is very soft, showing minor signs of use and wear. Has a few darker spots on it from water or product, mainly on the seat. No impacts to the leather at all, just a bit darker. On the near side rear billet, one of the holes is torn about a third of an inch. No impact to useability of the rigging. This is a heck of a rig. One that is ready to work, and at this price, you’ll have a heck of a saddle for years to come. Tree/Gullet: Full QH Bars, 7. Horn: 3″ x 3″. Thigh Space: 10.5. Full Quarter Horse Bars.

Vintage Carmel Saddlery of Fresno ranch roper saddle. See Pictures for all measurements. Tooled leather, Suede seat (needs to be “refluffed”). Fenders: this was custom made by Carmel Saddlery owner Leon Emerson for a Mr. Whoever owned it after Mr. Lackey and before me was a shorter person and cut the fenders. I’m almost 6′ tall with a 36 inseam and did not have issues of the fenders being too short. If it had been a priority, I’d have had new fenders made to match, but it wasn’t. Use: I used this saddle consistently for about 15 years on some larger, nice wide-backed horses, it’s a great saddle and comfortable. One of those horses is retired now, one moved on, and one has been lame for five years. All of my other horses are smaller cowponies and I don’t rope anymore so this saddle can find a new home. About this saddle and the maker. This saddle was made by Carmel Saddlery of Fresno, California. Carmel Saddlery was a producer of highly renowned, premium quality saddles and tack, highly collectible saddles and other riding implements, from 1916 to sometime in the late 20th Century. The saddle has a butterscotch color with a tan suede leather seat and highly detailed stitching and leather tooling. The saddle also features a sheep’s fur underside. One concho does not match (didn’t when I bought it). 38 lbs (item weight).
