Fenders: this was custom made by Carmel Saddlery owner Leon Emerson for a Mr. Whoever owned it after Mr. Lackey and before me was a shorter person and cut the fenders. I’m almost 6′ tall with a 36 inseam and did not have issues of the fenders being too short. If it had been a priority, I’d have had new fenders made to match, but it wasn’t. Use: I used this saddle consistently for about 15 years on some larger, nice wide-backed horses, it’s a great saddle and comfortable. One of those horses is retired now, one moved on, and one has been lame for five years. All of my other horses are smaller cowponies and I don’t rope anymore so this saddle can find a new home. About this saddle and the maker. This saddle was made by Carmel Saddlery of Fresno, California. Carmel Saddlery was a producer of highly renowned, premium quality saddles and tack, highly collectible saddles and other riding implements, from 1916 to sometime in the late 20th Century. The saddle has a butterscotch color with a tan suede leather seat and highly detailed stitching and leather tooling. The saddle also features a sheep’s fur underside. One concho does not match (didn’t when I bought it). 38 lbs (item weight).
