Assiniboine rawhide ladies saddle. A Plains Indian saddle from the late 1800s. It is a wood frame, wrapped in rawhide. The stitching on the rawhide is amazing. Sinew sewn, tacks and nails. Not many of these authentic ones survive. The vintage Navajo saddle blanket is included with the saddle. This saddle has leather seat covering. According to Wikipedia, Plains Indians or Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains are the Native American tribes and Nation band governments who have historically lived on the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies. While hunting-farming cultures have lived on the Great plains for centuries prior to European contact, the region is most known for the horse cultures that flourished from the 17th century through the late 19th century. Many of them would have ridden in saddles similar to this. This is an awesome collectors piece that would go perfect in your collection! Age: Circa Late 1800s. Size: Smaller sized saddle overall, but it has about a 12 seat. Condition: Pretty good for its age. Wear, imperfections and missing accoutrements expected. Please look closely at the pictures as they are an important part of our description.

Lovely 16 Very Rare Ted Flowers Horse Head Conchos, Deer Head Carved Parade saddle, and breastplate. The leather is in good condition, and pliable throughout. There are areas of wear on the straps that attach to the breastplate, and the single buckle stirrup leathers have been lengthened. The flash has caused places on the saddle to appear brown. They are very faint.. The seat, however, is brown. A beautiful stag head has been carved into the jockeys, and both tapaderos. The head is still quite distinct. I believe this to be a rare find, I have looked everywhere I could think of, and have not found photos of another. The tapaderos are long, and well decorated. The stirrups themselves are wood, one has a split, and they should be replaced if the saddle were to be used. As a display, they are fine… They are very well decorated and horse heads appear on all of the larger silver spots. These same horse heads are on the breastplate, and all over the saddle. There are a few stitches missing above one of the silver adorned teardrops on the breastplate, and the drop is loose. It is a very easy fix. The short leather straps that attach the breastplate do show some cracking, and should also be replaced. The leather of the saddle is all very pliable and good. The stirrup leathers adjust by a simple belt type buckle. This is a little lower grade saddle than some of the Ted Flowers I have owned, but it is still lovely. The seat is a strong 16 inch, measured from the inside rim of the cantle straight across to the same level on the pommel. This is a bit of information I could find about Holtz Saddle Company. The Holtz Saddle Co. Was founded in 1947 by Bernard (Bernie) W. Holtz in the basement of the family home in Carrolltown, PA. Bernie always had a love for horses and started driving a team at the age of nine. As a youngster, he would go to the movies and watch the cowboys on the screen, wearing fancy saddles on their horses. Shortly before his 30th birthday, he saw a Palomino he liked so very much that he bought it. A fancy horse needed a fancy saddle so he designed and made his first saddle while working at night. It was not long after that the orders from all over the country began flowing into the small shop in Carrolltown. The saddles which Bernie completed were each an original in that no two were designed alike, which accounted for many of the nearly 600 hours that it took to finish a complete saddle ensemble. In 1958, Bernie built a shop on his property and expanded the store to include a wide variety of everything for the horse and rider. For the next couple of decades he operated the shop, continued to make sought-after silver and leather articles, and with his wife, Leona, raised nine children. Bernie made 44 silver saddles in his career, including one owned by Richard Boone, of Have Gun Will Travel fame and several for riders in the Pasadena Rose Parade.
