Previous owner said that this saddle was a Ted Flowers Parade Saddle. It is suggested that his early works do not have stamps or markings on them. His workmanship was known through his silver work. This saddle has no maker markings. Parade saddle is Dark Oil color with hard leather 14 Seat. Seat, skirt, and fenders feature floral tooling pattern. This saddle has 8 large silver corner plates. Saddle is trimmed with silver square conchos with a horse head featured on them. Matching silver continues on to fenders with large plates. Tapaderos have again matching silver conchos and plates and features a beautiful star concho in center. 2 Pommel plates and horn plate. Saddle has matching breast collar with matching silver conchos featuring the horse heads and taps. Saddle also come with matching parade style headstall. Used and in good condition. One Concho is missing on saddle, a silver plate is cracked into two, the breast collar has two taps that have fallen off and are still with the saddle. One tap has been lost. Can be seen in pictures. ATTN: 4 ADDITIONAL PHOTOS HAVE BEEN ADDED—For sale: 15 in Black Ted Flowers Parade saddle w/bridle and martingale. This is a 599 model with the square horse heads. There are no missing pieces and everything is intact. Tapaderos are complete and in good shape. Fleece is in good shape. Bridle has had some small repairs done by a professional(LOON CREEK LEATHER–TED FLOWERS REFURBISHER). Replacing all bad leather to make this ready to put on your horse. Inside panels of fenders are in good shape along with stitching. This has been kept indoors for over 15 yrs. If you are looking for a perfect specimen please move on. This is not the saddle for you. This saddle has been used but not abused. Fully functional, of course you could do a full refurbish for a pristine look. That will be at buyers discretion. Corona Pad is not included in this sale. ATTN NEW PHOTOS ADDED– New Saddle Strings Installed On Saddle And Tapaderos–Corona Pad not included in sale. Up for sale is a 50-60s era Bona Allen Sunburst Parade Saddle complete with original Headstall/Breast strap. This is a nice vintage saddle saddle for being close to 60 yrs old. If you want a perfect specimen please find another listing. This saddle has been in my house for some time on a stand as show/conversation piece. This outfit is in fantastic shape for a 70 yr old saddle. Nice crisp leather carving, and Fleece pad still has lots of life left. Fleece inside of toes of tapaderos are still intact and good shape. It is not ragged or deteriorating. Stitching is tight and strong. I had my local leather smith install new strings on the saddle and tapaderos (see new pic). For the time I have had this saddle I have never put anything other than Fiebings saddle soap to keep the leather. There are no tears or gashes in the seat. The seat is a 15.5 inch seat. The headstall has had a minor repair over the years but nothing serious. I probably would have new buckles to replace the old rusty originals. The breast strap has had a minor repair but nothing serious. In my opinion it is fully functional. The saddle itself is solid with no rotted torn/weak leather. You could put this on your horse immediately. This saddle has NOT been abused over the years. Both Tapaderos are in great shape also. These outfits are rare to find complete. Nice outfit for a fraction of a Bohlin- Lovins -flowers outfit with equal quality. If you have any?? FEEL FREE TO MAKE AN OFFER, ALL I CAN SAY IS NO. A very nice sterling and gold parade saddle ensemble by Keyston Bros. 5-point stars in the style of sheriff’s posse mountings, with 14K gold rope and horse heads throughout the set. The matching bridle and breast collar also have the same elaborate engraving and raised stars and horse heads. Diamond pattern sterling mounts over the floral tooled leather. Saddle is heavily adorned with domed and scalloped Keyston Bros conchos in varying sizes, plus sterling swells caps and exquisitely engraved, fully silvered, heavy gauge 3 1/2 high cantle. Antique vintage 14 1/2 Western Parade Saddle w/bridle made by Newell’s Saddle Shop, St. Bridle is heavily tooled with lots of spots and vintage aluminum curb bit. Appears to have some rodent damage on throatlatch only. Saddle is in decent condition. Does need some work. Beautifully tooled all over. Lots of silver spots. Adorned with HUGE 21 long tapederos (stirrup covers), also with lots of silver spots and partially wool lined. Look at pictures CAREFULLY and thoroughly as they are part of the description. Now for some history! The below statement is from a Newell catalog. We employ well trained skilled workman that have had years of experience in the saddle making business, and do our best at all times to put the best workmanship possible in all saddles. We use only the best grade of saddle skirting leather throughout. Our trees are all hand made by skilled workman. Our men are paid by the hour. We have no piece work in our shop assuring you better quality of workman. Walter Lee Newell was born Nov. 8, 1904 in Bollinger County Missouri which is located in the Southeastpart of the state and died July 2, 1993 in Los Angles CA. Walter Newell opened a Music store and Photography Studios at 1627 South Broadway and a Cowboy store at 1629 South Broadway in St. Louis, after his family stores in Sank, Missouri closed. Walter was also an experienced musician and did a weekly music show on KXOX radio in St. In the Cowboy store Walter carried a full line of western boots made by Justin and Nocona, Dobbs Ten Gallon western hats and cowboyLevis. In addition to human wear he carried a full line of horse furnishings. In the early 1930s he expanded his operation into making and repairing western saddles and opened a factory at 1906 South 7thStreet in St. In a 1942 ad he claimed to be The only exclusive cowboy store in St. Louis In Walters 1944/45 catalog he states he made saddles for such well known people as Roy Rogers and Gabby Hayes. Col Jim Eskew world famous Rodeo producer of Royer Rogers Rodeo says It is my business to know saddles as well as horseflesh. When the United States entered WWII Walters shop flourished making many different items for the US military. The saddle factory was set up well to produce such things helmet liners, belts, straps and other military needs. After the war ended the call for working saddles fell way off and he turned to making trail ride saddles, parade and show saddles. In his 1948/49 catalog he still was making and keeping in stock working saddles but he had turn his attention to high end parade saddles and show saddles such as his Silver Dollar Saddle with one hundred real silver dollars decorating the saddle. Walter also made an aluminum tree saddle with a one hundred year guarantee. Because of the heavy-duty construction of the Newell saddle, many are still in use today as working saddles and trail ride saddles. The surviving few of his custom ordered saddles and parade saddles are are prized by their owners.
