Lovely 16 Very Rare Ted Flowers Horse Head Conchos, Deer Head Carved Parade saddle, and breastplate. The leather is in good condition, and pliable throughout. There are areas of wear on the straps that attach to the breastplate, and the single buckle stirrup leathers have been lengthened. The flash has caused places on the saddle to appear brown. They are very faint.. The seat, however, is brown. A beautiful stag head has been carved into the jockeys, and both tapaderos. The head is still quite distinct. I believe this to be a rare find, I have looked everywhere I could think of, and have not found photos of another. The tapaderos are long, and well decorated. The stirrups themselves are wood, one has a split, and they should be replaced if the saddle were to be used. As a display, they are fine… They are very well decorated and horse heads appear on all of the larger silver spots. These same horse heads are on the breastplate, and all over the saddle. There are a few stitches missing above one of the silver adorned teardrops on the breastplate, and the drop is loose. It is a very easy fix. The short leather straps that attach the breastplate do show some cracking, and should also be replaced. The leather of the saddle is all very pliable and good. The stirrup leathers adjust by a simple belt type buckle. This is a little lower grade saddle than some of the Ted Flowers I have owned, but it is still lovely. The seat is a strong 16 inch, measured from the inside rim of the cantle straight across to the same level on the pommel. This is a bit of information I could find about Holtz Saddle Company. The Holtz Saddle Co. Was founded in 1947 by Bernard (Bernie) W. Holtz in the basement of the family home in Carrolltown, PA. Bernie always had a love for horses and started driving a team at the age of nine. As a youngster, he would go to the movies and watch the cowboys on the screen, wearing fancy saddles on their horses. Shortly before his 30th birthday, he saw a Palomino he liked so very much that he bought it. A fancy horse needed a fancy saddle so he designed and made his first saddle while working at night. It was not long after that the orders from all over the country began flowing into the small shop in Carrolltown. The saddles which Bernie completed were each an original in that no two were designed alike, which accounted for many of the nearly 600 hours that it took to finish a complete saddle ensemble. In 1958, Bernie built a shop on his property and expanded the store to include a wide variety of everything for the horse and rider. For the next couple of decades he operated the shop, continued to make sought-after silver and leather articles, and with his wife, Leona, raised nine children. Bernie made 44 silver saddles in his career, including one owned by Richard Boone, of Have Gun Will Travel fame and several for riders in the Pasadena Rose Parade. Barefoot Cheyenne Brown Leather Treeless Saddle SZ 2. Barely used but did suffer from being stored. Some minor leather repair the the edging of the saddle and saddle seat. Some fraying on the rear nylon. The underside has some thinning in one small area. Needs more conditioner/oiling as is a little stiff. I have conditioned and oiled a few times. The breastplate has some cracks on one part as does one of the Fenders. I put a little leather repair on the fender. When cleaning I advise to only use water on the repaired parts (edges of front of saddle and edges of front of seat). The seat measures 17. From underneath along the center measures 24 front to back. Lovely 16 Very Rare Hand Made, hand carved, Shriners Parade saddle, bridle, and huge breastplate. The leather is in very good condition, and pliable throughout. The flash has caused places on the saddle to appear brown. The saddle has all of its original deep black color. The seat, however, is brown. I believe this to be a rare find, I have looked everywhere I could think of, and have not found photos of another. The tapaderos are long, show little wear, and are in excellent shape.. They are very well decorated and really eye catching! The hand carving is deep and beautiful, and the taps hang down low. They are off the saddle in the first picture, but will actually hang down about 19 inches, on the saddle. In the picture, they appear shorter. The leather of the saddle is all very pliable and very good, there is deep hand tooling in a very deep and beautiful pattern that time has not disturbed. Somebody has recently polished the silver, and little traces of the polish material can still be seen. It all looks strikingly good though. The Shriner emblem presents in a number of places. It is thicker than it appears, and actually is three dimensional. The bridle is lovely, and the cheekpieces and browband have numerous silver adornments, and a lovely face chain. The seat is a strong 16 inch, measured from the inside rim of the cantle straight across to the same level on the pommel. Ready to ride, just in time for the parade season. Lovely 15 Brown Ted Flowers Parade saddle. The leather is in very good condition, and pliable throughout. The tapaderos are on a swivel attachment, making stirrups easy to slide into. They are in good condition and really eyecatching! The leather of the saddle is basically very pliable and good, there are a couple spots on the metal that would improve with a little cleaning. I have not done any cleaning. The seat is suede, which would indicate it is a little later model Ted Flowers. The bridle is lovely, has long, newish reins and a pretty face chain to accompany all of the silver adornments. There is one Concho missing on the silver piece in the center of the brow band just where the forelock would cover. Additionally, One silver drop has come unattached from the breastplate, but is there, and currently attached to the leather strap that descends to the girth but lying on top of the breastplate in the photo… The distance from the overhead light makes the tapaderos look darker. All of the leather matches nicely. This saddle is part of a numbered collection of parade saddles owned by a posse group which performed over a large area. It is numbered, engraved in the silver in rear of the cantle, with a large 15. I have a matching 16+ inch Ted Flowers outfit that I will try and post in the next few days…. They would be great together. It is saddle number #20 in this grouping.
