VINTAGE SEARS & ROEBUCK J. 8146 TAPADEROS STIRRUPS NICE! We believe not 100% sure, that this is to be among the few remaining early 1940s about, or 1950’s? Higgins saddles made for the Sears & Roebuck Co by Bona Allen. There are no BA marks on saddle that I can find, but basing on information online. This saddle is numbered 8416 and has the numbers 1225 (which are smaller and above 8416) and complete with the original J. Higgins bucking bronco brand on saddle in front of the saddle horn. The saddle, which is a dark brown, features beautiful floral detailed leather tooling on the skirt and fenders. The leather is still pliable and in great shape for a vintage saddle. This saddle even comes with the tapaderos stirrups which have a heavily stitched leather covering, and the details vary from the front to back, waffle imprint on one side. This saddle is still very durable. Lots of nice adornments on this saddle as well, some new, some older. The sheep skin/lambs wool liner is not in the greatest shape. This would be, as we see it, the biggest concern with this vintage saddle. There could be some hardware missing, please review fully for details. This stunning saddle is a beautiful piece of Cowboy history. At the time it was made, this was a top of the line saddle from one of the country’s most prestigious makers. The Lichtenberger Ferguson Co. Was a Los Angeles, California company that operated between the 1923 and 1959. Lichtenberger-Ferguson chaps, saddles and holsters were prized for their workmanship and style. They continue to be highly collectible pieces today. This saddle is maker marked on the front of the seat: LICHTENBERGER FERGUSON CO. / LOS ANGELES / MAKERS. The mark is stamped with a picture of a steer head in the middle. The patina given to the leather through long years of riding and layers of saddle oil have left a stellar dark color. The saddle has a 14 inch seat, 8″ gullet The name tag say “Gayle. This is definitely a piece of pure Cowboy art that can be used to this day. It is a piece of California history from the heyday of the big Western cattle ranches and their Hollywood portrayal.
